THE IP (INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION) RATING SYSTEM WAS DRAFTED BY THE IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). The first number indicates the level of dust prevention and prevention of foreign objects (dust protection level), the second number indicates the degree of sealing of the lamp against moisture and waterproof gas intrusion (waterproof protection level), the larger the number, the higher its protection level.
The first indication of the number/definition of dust rating:
IP00: No protection, no special protection against people or things outside
IP10: Prevents the intrusion of solid objects larger than 50mm, and prevents the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally touching the parts inside the lamp. Prevents the intrusion of foreign objects of large size (diameter greater than 50mm).
IP20: Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm, prevent human fingers from touching the parts inside the lamp to prevent the intrusion of medium-sized (12mm larger diameter) foreign objects.
IP30: Prevents the intrusion of solid objects larger than 2.5mm, and prevents tools, wires or similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm from invading and touching the parts inside the lamp.
IP40: Protection against the intrusion of solid objects larger than 1.0mm: Prevent tools, wires or similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm from entering and touching the parts inside the luminaire.
IP50: dustproof, completely prevent the invasion of foreign objects, although it can not completely prevent dust from entering, but the amount of intruding dust will not affect the normal operation of the lamp.
IP60: Dustproof, completely protected against foreign objects and completely protected from dust ingress
The second indication of the number/waterproof level definition:
IPX0: No protection.
IPX1: Prevents dripping water intrusion, vertical dripping water droplets (such as condensate) do not cause harmful effects on the luminaire.
IPX2: When tilted 15 degrees, it can still prevent dripping water intrusion, when the lamp is tilted vertically to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause harmful effects on the lamp
IPX3: Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water, prevent rain, or prevent damage caused by sprayed water entering the lamp in the direction of less than 60 degrees perpendicular.
IPX4: Prevents splashing water intrusion and prevents splashing water from all directions from entering the luminaire and causing damage.
IPX5: Prevents the intrusion of sprayed water and prevents water from all directions ejected from the nozzle from entering the luminaire and causing damage.
IPX6: Prevent the intrusion of large waves, installed on the deck lamps to prevent damage caused by the intrusion of large waves.
IPX7: To prevent the intrusion of water when immersed in water, the lamp is immersed in water for a certain time or the water pressure is below a certain standard to ensure that it is not damaged by water ingress.
IPX8: Prevents the intrusion of water during sinking, and the lamp sinks indefinitely under the specified water pressure, which can ensure that it is not damaged by water ingress.
IEC standard is the abbreviation of IEC International Electrotechnical Commission standard:
Founded in 1906, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world's earliest non-governmental international electrotechnical standardization body and is a Class A advisory organization of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). After the establishment of ISO in 1947, IEC was merged into ISO as an electrician department, but still maintained its technical and financial independence. According to the new agreement between ISO and IEC in 1976, both organizations are legally independent organizations, with IEC responsible for international standardization in the fields of electrical and electronics, and ISO in other areas. At present, IEC member countries include the vast majority of industrially developed countries and some developing countries. These countries have 80 percent of the world's population, produce and consume 95 percent of the world's electricity, and manufacture and use 90 percent of the world's electrical and electronic products. The purpose of IEC is to promote the international harmonization of electrical standards, standardization in the field of electrical and electronic engineering and international cooperation in related aspects, and enhance international mutual understanding. To that end, a variety of publications, including international standards, were produced and National Committees were to be encouraged to use them, subject to the availability of their national conditions. IEC works in electricians, electronics, telecommunications and atomic energy.
The highest authority of the IEC is the Council. There are currently 53 member states, known as IEC National Committees, and each country can only have one body as its member. Each member state is a member of the Council, which meets once a year, called the IEC Annual Meeting, and is held in rotation among the member states. The Executive Committee deals with matters assigned by the Council. The technical work of the IEC is the responsibility of the Executive Committee (CA). In order to improve work efficiency, the Executive Committee is divided into three groups, A, B and C, which deal with coordination issues in standard formulation in different fields at the same time. The IEC currently has 104 technical committees and 143 sub-technical committees. IEC has three certification committees, one is the Electronic Components Quality Assessment Committee (IECQ), one is the Electronic Safety Certification Committee (IECEE), and the other is the Explosion-proof Electrical Certification Committee (IECEX). In order to harmonize the development of relevant certification guidelines, IEC also established the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) in 1996, which is responsible for developing a series of certification and accreditation guidelines, including system certification work.
